Drat!

Have I ever mentioned that I’m anal? I am. Have I told you about how very much I hate mistakes? I have, I’m sure. And I believe I mentioned just the other day how much I was enjoying Frieda. You see where this is going, don’t you? No? Well, let me show you.

See that? Yep, it’s a miscrossed cable. Grrrr. And it was 20 rows back. All the way back to where I started the armhole shaping. The good thing about that is that it was easy to rip out because I just ripped back to where I cast off for the armhole and I was set, but damn. All the progress I made last night gone. Gone. Gone.

Needless to say, I’m still working on the front of Frieda and will be for the next little bit. I still love the yarn and the pattern, despite my stupidity.

Now, a question for you all. I need to lengthen the sleeves on dear Frieda. The pattern calls for a 17 3/4 inch sleeve and I’m more a 19-20 inch sleeve gal. I have a couple of thoughts and would like to know what you think. One option is to lengthen the ribbing. The pattern is designed to have less ribbing on the sleeves than the body (30 rows on the body v. 16 on the sleeves) and I thought I could make the ribbing on the sleeves match. At this gauge that would add about 2 inches. Or, the other option is to add one or two more cable repeats to the sleeve before the armhole shaping (one repeat is 8 rows, which at 24 rows to 4 inches is a little over 1 inch, but two repeats is 2.66 inches). What do you think?

Have a great day.

Okay it took me about 10 minutes to find the mistake, I obviously am not that way about mistakes, they really don’t bug me, but I’ve always been like that.

I think I’d add two inches to the ribbing, especially if the ribbing is less then the body. Or add one pattern repeat to the sleeves and the rest of the needed addition in ribbing. Either of those I think would work perfectly.

Argh! How frustrating! Such a bummer that you had to rip back so far. :(

For the sleeves – my thought is that you don’t need to add an even cable repeat before the sleeve shaping, as it is not critical where you are in the cable when you end the sleeve at the top of the sleeve cap. The cable pattern is completely independent of the sleeve shaping, and it doesn’t matter where you end the cable as long as the cable is consistent all the way up the sleeve. Does that make sense?

    Yeah… I didn’t see it either…

Go with the 2 inches of ribbing–that will look very nice.

yeah… sometime that happens with cables, you mistakenly put the stitches back/front or v. v.

i think lengthen the ribbing would be good.

It took me awhile to see the mistake too. =) I’ve mis-crossed cables before, so I know it’s a bummer to rip back. But you’ll gain your progress back in no time!

I’m going to be the voice of dissent here and say I think more sleeve ribbing might look a little odd. I’d go with more cables and or a hybrid approach (some more cables and some more ribbing) Unless you’re a sleeve roller-upper/cuffer, then do the ribbing.

I think I agree with Cyndi about the cable repeat… no reason why you’d need to add an even repeat, right? Maybe just a little extra ribbing, then extra length before the sleeve cap?

I don’t see the mistake. Am I blind?

    I vote for ribbing.

I’m not seeing the mistake! I vote for cables :-)

Math and accurate row gauge is your friend here. Myself, I would probably add extra cable repeats. Not the biggest fan of ribbing.

I can’t see it! I vote cables. Of course, I’ve never done cables. It does look good.

I matched my ribbing for the sleeves/body and just added extra cable repeats.

I did preplan though so that my cable would end at a good point when I actually cast it off.

Sorry about the cable screw up. Luckily, she’s a fast knit so you’ll be back to where you was in no time.

Ouch, my sympathies on frogging back that missed cable crossing but Frieda is fast so you should be on track again in no time.

Your personal preference on the sleeves. It’s true you don’t need a full cable repeat but it would be nice to have, huh? I don’t like long ribbing myself so I’d go with the cables.

Argh…. I hate it when I do that!! I love cables and HATE when I realize waaayyyyyy later that I mis-crossed.
