I Started Rogue

August 20th, 2007 — 05:58 pm

I’m sure I am one of the last knitters in the world to knit Rogue, but what can I say? Better late than never, right? I’ve had the pattern forever and the yarn for … awhile. I bought it for a great price from Webs some time last winter. Anyway, after the lace didn’t work out I decided it was time to knit myself a sweater. The Butterfly fans out there will be asking why I started something new when I have a perfectly good sweater on the needles and I really don’t have an answer except that I wanted to. I do believe it is a knitters prerogative to abandon (temporarily) a perfectly good sweater project in exchange for a different sweater project.

So, here is the progress I’ve made on Rogue in a little over a week.

Rogue

I just divided the sweater for the armholes and have started the decreases on the back. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I’ve put Rogue on hold while I knit a pattern for Yahaira’s new book. She has a designer that has more than one pattern in the works and didn’t have time to knit a sweater for the book. So, I agreed. It’s a lovely lace pattern in the most wonderful yarn and I’ve promised to finish it by the first part of September. I’m keeping Rogue in a basket close to the couch because it is a nice change of pace from small needles and lace (yeah, the sweater is lace) and I sneak in a row or two every now and then. It will be awhile before it’s cool enough for a thick wool sweater, but fall is fast approaching. I’m afraid winter will be arriving long before I’m ready.

Undulating Rib Socks

August 13th, 2007 — 04:46 pm

I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long. I don’t really have an excuse. I’ve been here and I’ve been knitting, I just haven’t been blogging. The undulating rib socks made it to my sister in time for her birthday - 10 days ago. Initially I waited to blog about them because she’s taken to reading my blog on a fairly regular basis. What’s up with that? I mean I’m glad she’s taken an interest, but why did she have to do it right about the time I was knitting her socks? Murphey’s Law I suppose.

Undulating Rib

Project Details:

Yarn: Piece of Beauty Bluefaced Leicester Superwash in Ocean Minerals

Pattern: Undulating Rib from Favorite Socks

Needles: Lantern Moon Ebony Sox Stix in 2.25mm. I absolutely love the 5″ needles but I wish they didn’t warp as bad as they do. I suppose you can’t have everything.

Thoughts: I was a little disappointed when I saw that Piece of Beauty had switched from merino to bfl sock yarn, but mostly just because I loved the merino so much. I have to say that I was very, very happy with the blf. After I knit these socks can honestly tell you that this is great sock yarn. The colors are wonderful, I love that it is superwash, and there wasn’t any pooling! The undulating rib pattern has enough going on to keep you interested, but is fairly mindless - just what a sock is supposed to be.

My sister was very surprised, which makes me so very happy. I gave her the very first pair of socks I ever knit and she says these are soooo much better. I should hope so.

I started the Myrtle Leaf shawl from Victorian Lace today, but after ripping it out 3 times I decided that it wasn’t the right time for that project. So instead I’ve cast on Rogue in some Skye Tweed I had in the stash. It’s really coming along nicely and I’ll have pictures for you this week.

There’s been a lot going on in my life and I think I’ll try to get my thoughts together and tell you all about it. Nobody gives better advise than my blogging pals. You guys are just smart and insightful. For now, have a great day and I promise I won’t be gone so long before my next post.
